 …It’s magic…
...das Album ist für mich reine Magie. Es scheint mir so, als habe der Rock’n Roll Gott den Jungs bei den Arbeiten zu diesem Album, alle Mystik - zu der Musik fähig ist, mitgegeben. Es ist für mich das stimmigste Album das es gibt. Da gibt es keinen schwachen Moment. Diese LP machte mich zum Fan. Dark Side war für mich das Ticket in eine andere Welt. Meine Eltern machten sich bestimmt sorgen, wenn ich die Musik im völlig verdunkeltem Zimmer hörte. Es ist nicht mehr nur ein Album, sondern eher wie ein guter, alter Bekannter der mich in meinem Leben begleitet - wie es die Musik von Floyd im allgemeinen ist. Die SACD in Multichannel Format ist für mich die Krönung – es ist einfach nur berauschend.

Some band called Pink Floyd, with an album entitled ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’, or something, made it 1,056 weeks on the US album charts this week - back in 1997.
Released in the States on 17 March 1973, it would go on to be the first recording to spend 1,500 weeks on the Billboard charts (a milestone reached in May 2006), occupying 164 different positions in the Top 200.
Incredibly, it remained in the Top 200 for a record 736 consecutive weeks (741 non-consecutive, as it dropped off briefly in July 1988) before falling out in October 1988 (and only then because of changes to chart methodology), which is by far the longest chart run of any album ever.
Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog - where older albums are now listed - credits the album with a cumulative total of 1,660 weeks notched up. That’s nearly 32 years.
So, all in all, it did - and continues to do - rather well.

This is the first review in a series of albums that you need to purchase, obtain, or, by any means possible, force into your auditory canals. The subject of this week is the incomparable “The Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd.
Pink Floyd sold an outrageous number of records in their day. In fact, “The Dark Side of the Moon” has gone platinum so many times over that scientists should discover or create a new, more precious metal just to award to this particular album. The popularity and mythos surrounding this album alone cements its status as Pink Floyd’s most influential and important album. You may fire when ready.
Before you argue that “The Wall” was more important to the rock landscape of the 1970’s than “Dark Side of the Moon”, consider a couple of facts. “The Wall” was designed specifically to be a “rock opera.” Do you remember the “rock opera”? Towards the end of the 1970’s, the “thing to do” appeared to be establishing yourself on the rock music scene and then writing an elaborate story that meshes with music. The Who had “Tommy” and “Quadrophenia.” Meatloaf has his unfinished rock opera “Bat Out of Hell.” Science fiction and cross-dressing fans have “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Pink Floyd has “The Wall.” As an album, “The Wall” is an incredible masterpiece, but unless you have a good bit of time to devote to an experience, “The Dark Side of the Moon” is a far more palatable, timeless album.
If you have about ten dollars in your pocket and you have not already purchased this album, you might want to consider the investment. Listen to it by yourself, with your friends, or sync it up with the “The Wizard of Oz” (yes, it works, unintentional or not). Just go buy the album. You will not regret it.

Zudem nahm der Grafiker damit den mehr als 30 Jahre später vom britischen Designstudio Hipgnosis entwickelten Coverklassiker von Pink Floyds "Dark Side Of The Moon" vorweg.
Da stellt sich die Frage, wer hat wem die Grundidee geklaut?
So wie es neben dem Bild steht (Zitat) ist es ja umgekehrt!

Zu dem Album als solchem:
Kurioserweise gilt es als DER Prototyp des Konzeptalbums schlechthin, jedoch empfinde ich es als eines der PF Alben mit dem uneinheitlichsten Gefühl und eher als Sammlung von Einzelsongs...oder aber die 3 Kern-Nummer Money-Time-Us and them mit etwas Beiwerk und jeder Menge Überblendungen. Da finde ich, muss man "wish you were here" entgegenhalten. DAS wirkt wie aus einem Guss, hat einen in sich stimmigen Konsens und behält die Grundatmosphäre von Anfang bis Ende bei...

Wenn du der englischen Sprache nich mächtig sein solltest,
gibt es hier in der Lyrics-Datenbank auch übersetzungen ins deutsche.
Zieh's dir nochmal rein, hör nich nur auf die Töne, sondern auf die Musik.

Ich bin kein PF-Basher, der sich hier im heiligsten PF-Forum trollt, sondern wie ihr alteingesessener Fan der ersten Stunde und auch Mitglied einer PF-Tribute Band.
Dennoch; ich kann nicht sagen, was es ist, aber die Texte helfen mir nicht, dieses Album wirklich als Einheit zu sehen...vielleicht ist es gerade der bemühte Versuch, genau das bewirken zu wollen...mit den Geräuschen, den Stimmen, Herzschalg am Anfang und Ende, der Kreis, der sich auch textlich sicher schließt....
Naja, vielleicht hat man nach 25 Jahren PF Kosnum durchaus auch mal einen Zustand der Leere gegenüber dem einen oder anderen Album erreicht. The Wall könnte ich mir auch nicht mehr mit Ruhe und Geduld über Kopfhörer am Stück reinziehen....vielleicht bin ich durch meine Band-Arbeit auch zu sachlich und viel mit der Musik konfrontiert....sämtliche Songs, die ich über 10 Jahre mit einer Rock-Pop Covertruppe gespielt habe, treiben mich in den Wahnsinn, wenn ich sie heutzutage im Radio höre......aber Abstand schqffen und dann irgendwann ganz "neu" hören und entdecken geht nicht als Tribute-Musiker...so muss ich mich mit meiner Fan-Identitätskrise anfreunden...
