Der Kampf des britischen "UFO-Hackers" Gary McKinnon gegen seine Auslieferung an die USA hat in der letzten Zeit prominente Helfer erhalten. Zuletzt stieß auch David Gilmour zu den Unterstützern.
Der Frontmann der legendären Band Pink Floyd wird eine der Hintergrundstimmen in einem Protestsong gegen die Auslieferung singen. McKinnons Mutter Janis Sharp hatte dessen Text auf die Melodie eines anderen Protestsongs geschrieben: "Chicago" von Graham Nash, einem Mitglied von Crosby, Stills, & Nash.
Gilmour sorgte auch dafür, dass Sharp rechtzeitig die Copyright-Freigabe durch Nash erhielt, um den Song am Wochenende auf einer Protestkundgebung vor der US-Botschaft aufführen zu können. Der Pink Floyd-Sänger konnte dort nicht selbst anwesend sein, übermittelte aber eine Solidaritäts-Botschaft."
Zum Hintergrund noch: McKinnon ist am Asperger-Syndrome, einer Autismus-Variante, erkrankt.

Gilmours Blogger, FEd, hatte auch schon dazu geschrieben, am 31.03.:
"First, I’d like to catch up on your reaction to last week’s news: namely the story about this week’s ’sing-in’ protest against Gary McKinnon’s planned extradition.
In what David called “a heavy handed response” from the US, Gary, who has Asperger’s syndrome, stands accused of hacking into US military websites and is now under threat of extradition - under the controversial 2003 Extradition Act, which allows US authorities to demand extradition without having to provide much by way of evidence - so that he can stand trial in the States.
He could face up to an incredible 70 years in jail there, labelled an ‘enemy combatant’, which sounds like a most severe wrap across the knuckles as punishment for looking for proof of alien life, as Gary maintains.
I’d like to know what you think. Some might argue that he did them a favour by exposing how lax their security was. (Default passwords at the Pentagon?!)"

Offensichtlich ist ab morgen der britische High Court für die Frage zuständig, ob McKinnon an die USA ausgeliefert werden darf: news.scotsman.com/scotland ...
